Shopping on the Island

July 2008

We've just finished our exhibition at the Minster Church of Sts Thomas in Newport, and it was a successful fortnight;  the winner of the beautiful African raffle quilt was Mrs Warden, of Stockton-on-Tees and the quilt made over £1100 for the Thorascope appeal at St Mary's Hospital.  Our beautiful embellished  stars - Lesley's great idea - raised £82 for the Breast Cancer Unit at the hospital (we're rounding the donation up to £100), and we're donating £200 to the re-building appeal at Sts Thomas' Church, from the proceeds of the sales table.  Well done, everybody!!

I was pleased to hear that various visitors to the show used this website to find out information about Vectis Quilters - remember, we're always delighted to hear from you and will give you a warm welcome on your visit to the Island.

We had a good showing at the National Quilt Championships at Sandown Park in Esher.  Of the 38 entries in the "Going Round in Circles" category, 8 were from Vectis Quilters, and three ladies received a "Judges Merit" - a big well done and congratulations to Irene Hill, Pat Horne and Nava Young!

So I guess it won't surprise anyone to hear that Irene Hill won the"Visitor's Choice" vote at our exhibition, for her stunning and meticulously executed quilt "A Touch of Turquoise".  In second place was Lesley Jones with "Royal Purple", another beautiful quilt that got a lot of interest and was sold to one lucky person.

As you can imagine, it was standing room only at Gail Lawther's talk and workshop, and she wowed everybody with her gorgeous quilts and sense of fun - our next prizewinner is Ineke Berlyn.  We've also added a couple of local tutor workshops for October and November.

If you're a visitor to the Isle of Wight, we'd love to see you at one of our meetings - see left hand side of page for how to contact us.
